Fireside

My favorite part of the colder weather is having a fire in the fireplace. That was a nonnegotiable when we were buying our house, it must have a fireplace. Apparently that was negotiable, I gave up my fireplace for the beautiful acre that we are living on instead. I decided the next best thing was a fire pit. Nothing fancy, we are not fancy people, just a store bought one that we use often. It may be the kids favorite cold weather past time most likely because s'mores are almost always involved.

The glow of the fire and the warmth that it gives off relaxes me. What is it about the sound of a fire crackling that helps you to unwind and take in your surroundings? There was a mist in the air that created a wet and chilly evening. We wrapped ourselves in blankets and nestled close to the warmth. I don't think I could keep the kids sitting still by the fire for long if it were not for the promise of s'mores. We may have cheated and had dessert before dinner that night. The kids downed their sweet treat and then as the mist grew heaver went back inside.

David and I stayed outside under the protection of the porch. We just sat and listened for a while longer. It was a quiet evening with the sound of only the rain sprinkling and the fire crackling. We talked about plans for the acre and the new year that was fast approaching. The rain started to fall harder and naturally put out the flames. We went inside and put on our little electric wood burning fireplace and a movie, cozied up for the rest of the evening on the couch while the rain fell outside. It was a nice end to a beautiful weekend.
